Watch Out for the New Metro in Doha

Qatar Rail has announced that the Doha Metro tracks installation is expected to be finished by the end of the year and to be fully operational by 2019. The completion of this project is considered to be a major milestone for the agency.

Doha Metro Tracks Expected to Be Completed in 2017

Qatar Rail is the agency responsible for overseeing the construction of this multi-billion dollar integrated project. The rail network is expected to unify all railways in Qatar making commuting more convenient for everyone: the residents, workers and tourists alike.

Around 70% of this public transport project is expected to be finished this year. That includes the installation of tracks and electrical equipment, receiving the first four of its 75 driverless trains and giving key operator contracts. When completed, there will be 37 stations and three lines which will be connected to Msheireb station.

Phase 1 of Doha Metro

  • Red Line (Coast Line) will have 18 stations that will run 42 kilometers from Al Wakra in the south to Lusail in the north. Going to the airport will also be more convenient for the passengers as it will also connect Hamad International Airport, Terminal 1 to the city center.

  • Green Line (Education Line) will have 11 stations which will run east from Al Riffa to Al Mansoura in the west.

  • Gold Line (Historic Line) will also run from east to west. With 11 stations from Ras Bu Aboud in the east to Al Aziziya in the west will interchange with largest station Msheireb together with the other two lines.

Phase 2 of Doha Metro

Expected to be completed by 2026, the second phase of the railway project will involve the expansion of phase one lines. An additional Blue Line with 72 stations will be constructed to serve both the capital and the suburbs in all major locations for the easy access and convenience of the public.

Once completed, the metro will also be connected to neighboring countries creating the first fully integrated rail system. The agency wants to ensure the public that once finished, this metro will be the region’s most comfortable, reliable and safest railway system.
