Applying for a New Passport in Doha, Qatar

Did you know? Diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Qatar were established in May 1981. For more than 10 years, however, passport-related services had been covered by the Philippine Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Fortunately, in May 1992, the Philippine government officially opened an Embassy in Doha. Here, we can have our passports renewed or replaced, as well as avail of important services such as marriage services, applying for a child’s birth certificate, and more.

In this article, we will be focusing on the renewal of Philippine passports. Specifically, we will talk about the requirements, fees, procedures, and other details related to passport renewal for Filipinos in Qatar.

Requirements

Before anything else, be sure to prepare the following requirements:

• Duly accomplished Passport Application Form (you can download these forms for Adult and Minor applicants);
• Scheduled appointment through the Book Appointment Link;
• Most recent Passport and one photocopy of its data page; and
• Personal appearance at the Philippine Embassy in Doha.

If you are renewing the passport of a Minor applicant (below 18 years old), don’t forget to include these additional requirements:

• Copy of Birth Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) if the child was born in the Philippines, or copy of Report of Birth issued by the Philippine Embassy if the chilwas born in Qatar; and
• Copy of Passport or Qatar ID of the accompanying mother, and copy of parents’ Marriage Certificate issued by the PSA (if the child is accompanied by the father).

As cited earlier, you need to book an online appointment before going to the Embassy. Simply head to the Book Appointment Link, enter the necessary information, and choose your preferred date and time for passport renewal.

How to Renew Passport during Appearance Day at Philippine Embassy in Qatar

Here is a step-by-step guide to renewing your passport at the Philippine Embassy:

1. Go to the Philippine Embassy in Doha on your scheduled date of appointment. Don’t forget to bring all the requirements and supporting documents.
2. Go to the Passport Processing Area. Write your name on the log-in sheet, then wait for your name to be called.
3. Once you are called, submit your documents for checking and verification. As soon as these are verified, you will be given a payment slip for passport renewal.
4. Go to the Cashier and pay the passport renewal fee (QAR 240).
5. Proceed to the Passport Encoding Area to have your photo and biometrics taken.
6. Go to the Releasing Section, where the staff will tell you about the schedule of your passport release.

1. What is the proper attire at the Embassy?

Before heading to the Embassy for renewing or claiming your passport, see to it that you are dressed in proper, formal attire. Avoid wearing any of the following:

• Sando, thin-strapped, or strapless blouse;
• Shirts or blouses with low necklines;
• Shirts, blouses, or pants that are sheer or transparent;
• Shorts or mini-skirts that are cut above the knees;
• Cycling shorts, walking shorts, leggings, or pants with very low waistlines; or
  Slippers or other informal footwear.

2. How long does it take to renew my passport?

As mentioned earlier, the average processing time for renewing your Philippine passport is around 30 to 45 days. This should give you an idea on when to renew your passport. As a rule of thumb, it is best to renew your passport at least 6 months before the expiration date, so that you would not encounter any problems with your travel plans.

3. What are the requirements for passport releasing?

To claim your new passport, you need to bring the following:

• Official receipt; and
• Old or previous passport.

If, for some reason, you are not able to personally claim your new passport at the Philippine Embassy, you can ask another person to claim it on your behalf. Just remember to provide the person with an Authorization Letter, for a hassle-free transaction.

4. Can I have the passport delivered to my address?

As a matter of fact, yes, you can have your new passport delivered to your address instead of going back to the Embassy. Simply fill out the Delivery Request Form, then send it via email to doha.pe@dfa.gov.ph.

5. Does the Embassy accept “walk in” applications?

Unfortunately, no. You need to schedule an appointment before going to the Embassy. This is because Philippine Embassies and Consulates limit the number of visitors that come daily, especially now that the COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting most of the world.

6. How can I renew a lost passport?

The process for renewing or replacing a lost passport is quite the same; online appointment and personal appearance are also necessary. The main difference is that you will need to submit additional requirements, as follows:

• Original and photocopy of Birth Certificate issued by the PSA and authenticated by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA);
• Original and photocopy of Marriage Certificate issued by the PSA and authenticated by the DFA (for married women);
• Photocopy of Philippine-issued ID, e.g. voter’s ID, driver’s license, etc.;
• Police Report with English translation;
• Affidavit of Loss; and
• Photocopy of data page of the lost passport (if available).

Moreover, please take note that for the replacement of lost passports, there is a 15-day clearing period before the processing of applications.

7. How can I replace a “damaged” passport in Qatar?

A “damaged” or “mutilated” passport is one wherein a page (or pages) have been torn or detached. It could also be a passport that has been affected by water damage.

To replace a damaged passport, you will need to submit an Affidavit of Damaged Passport, along with the other usual requirements, such as a duly accomplished Passport Application Form, your original passport, and a photocopy of your passport’s data page. Again, you will need to set an online appointment before making a personal appearance at the Embassy.

8. What if I need a change of name on my passport?

For married women who would like to change the surname on their passports, they need to submit the following additional requirements:

• Original and photocopy of Marriage Certificate authenticated by the DFA; or
• Original and photocopy of Report of Marriage issued by the Philippine Embassy.

Opening Hours

The Philippine Embassy in Doha is open from Sundays to Thursdays, between 7am and 4pm (no lunch breaks!). However, it is closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and during Philippine and Qatar-declared holidays.
