Brief History of Qabayan Radio
Owned and operated by Tagalog Channel W.L.L., the station’s official broadcast began on April 1, 2019, following a test broadcast that started on March 25 of the same year. Qabayan Radio was granted a commercial broadcast license on December 4, 2018.
The station’s name, “Qabayan Radio,” is intentionally spelled to reflect both Qatar and the Filipino word kabayan, a term Filipinos use to refer to their fellow countrymen.
Qabayan Radio holds a unique role in the community as the only radio station serving the Filipino audience in Qatar. It promotes Filipino music and entertainment and also serves as a hub where kababayans, and even other nationalities, can connect with one another.
Meet the Radio Broadcasters
As with any radio station, the radio broadcasters are the bridge between the listeners and the music. Qabayan Radio currently has seven RJs who play your favorite songs. When you tune in, you’ll hear RJ Carl McFly, RJ Charles, RJ Colline, RJ Millle G, RJ Cody, and RJ John. They bring a wealth of experience in music and technology, allowing you to enjoy your favorite songs any time of the day.
Programs you can listen to include Morning Grind, Weekend Wrap-up, Top 10 Most Requested Songs of the Week, The Aftershift, The Playground, and ONQ, among others. Usapang Qabayan also features live interviews and guest discussions on topics related to the Philippines and Filipinos.
Listeners who want to hear their favorite songs can request them by logging into their Qabayan Radio account. The most requested songs are tallied weekly. The top 10 most requested songs can be heard on Weekend Wrap-up, aired every Saturday from 9 am to 12 noon.
