As an employee in Qatar, you must adhere to specific procedures when leaving your job. The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor, and Social Affairs (MADLSA) provides guidelines to ensure a legal transition between employers.

Whether you’ve been with your current company for years or are still in your probationary period, remember to formally inform your employer of your resignation plans. Maintain proper documentation and provide sufficient notice for your employer to process your departure request.
Guide for Workers Planning to Resign
At some point during your employment in Qatar, there might come a time when you feel the need to search for another opportunity. Tto do so, you should abide by the regulations that the MADLSA has put in place. By following these procedures, you can transfer to your new employer without complications.
Steps to follow:
- Use the MADLSA electronic system to inform your employer that you are planning to resign
- If you have been working at your current company for two years or less, you are required to have at least one month to notify your employer
- If you have been employed for more than two years, you should notify your employer two months before you plan to resign
- If you are still under probation, your new employer should compensate your former employer. The amount should not exceed two month’s worth of your basic wage.
Using the electronic system ensures both you and your employer acknowledge your departure plans. This also allows authorities to cancel any existing restrictions, enabling you to work freely elsewhere.
Requirements Before Informing Your Employer
- Employment contract with the current employer
- Copy of notification to the current employer about resigning, sent through the MADSLA electronic system
- Pamphlet or other document of the company
- Foundation registration of the company
- Letter of perceptions of the arbitrary
- Employee’s ID card number
- Employee’s mobile number
One of the conditions for the workplace is that they should not have an existing restriction for their employees. This means that any employees should be free to change employers without violating their contract.
Important Considerations When Submitting Your Notification
- Use the MADLSA platform anytime from Sunday to Thursday, between 7 am to 2 pm
- Secure a copy of the notification once you receive it
- Make sure that you informed your employer about your plans to resign to avoid any legal or financial troubles
- Employers should also abide by the procedure regarding the termination or non-renewal of employment contracts to also avoid legal troubles
It is in the best interest of the employee to inform their employer of their plans to resign. In doing so, you will avoid leaving a negative record with the company. If you maintain a good relationship with your former workplace, your employment history will also reflect positively.
Additional Information During the Notice Period
The employee is still entitled to receive their salary even if they have given notice to their employers. In addition, the company should also pay their employees any leave credits if these were not used.
