Two Ways to Cancel Qatar ID

When the time comes to leave Qatar permanently, one of the steps that you need to accomplish is cancelling your QID. You can do this by using the Metrash2 app or the MOI portal.

Cancelling QID Using the Metrash2 App

The Metrash2 app is a useful tool for almost all of your government transactions while in Qatar. To begin using the app, you need to log in with your credentials.

  • Tick the appropriate box: personal or company
  • Enter the QID numbers, then press “Add” or “Next” if you need to retrieve your sponsor’s name
  • Press “Next” to submit the application

Cancelling QID Using the MOI Portal

  • Log in to the portal using your smart card

  • Enter the Residence Permit numbers to be cancelled
  • Pay the corresponding fees online

How to Check Your Application Status

If you want to know the status of your QID cancellation, you can go to the MOI portal. You can start monitoring your status once you or your employer submits the QID cancellation request.

Once you’ve logged into the MOI portal, go to ”Ministry Services” and choose “Inquiries and Services.” You’ll then see a dropdown menu, where you will choose “Other Inquiries” and “Official Documents.”

Provide your QID number and nationality to proceed to the Captcha Code and search for your status. Once you have accomplished these steps, you will be directed to the page that shows the status of your application.

Consider These Scenarios Before Canceling Your QID

Earlier, we said that the QID is an important document in almost all of your transactions in Qatar. So before you press “SUBMIT” on your QID cancellation request, here are some scenarios to think about:

  • If you have outstanding bank loans, you cannot cancel your QID. You will only be allowed to do so once you have settled all your obligations.
  • You need to cancel any registered vehicles under your name before you can cancel your QID.
  • For any visas that you sponsored, you have to cancel them first to be able to cancel the QID.
  • Finally, you are given a 30-day grace period to stay in the country once your visa is cancelled.

Two Kinds of QID

Expatriate residents are given two kinds of Qatar IDs. First is the regular plastic card, which is commonly used by most expats. The other one is a smart card, which allows the user to transact with the government.
