The world was met with great sadness after the architect Zaha passed away, but that does not stop her legacy in Qatar as Al Wakrah Stadium continues to advance even after her death on March 31, 2016. This just made the workers with the appointment of the main contractor inspire to complete this project. It will be a big impact as this will be a tribute to the legacy and architectural work of its late creator.

The SC Project Manager, Thani Khalifa Al Zarraa said at Al Wakrah Stadium “We are very proud to have her legacy here in Qatar, as one of the iconic designs that will be referenced in her legacy.”

What you can see now is the outline of the stadium already coming up from the ground, with pitch level laid and the stands for spectators taking on shape.” he continued. “The main contractor will continue with the construction of the site, which should be completed within 30 months. Four groups of piles have been completed, which will support the roof of the stadium.”

The stadium and the Doha Metro which will connect to the capital city are ready to host test matches before the tournament. It is also a proposed venue for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar having a net capacity of 40,000.
