We’re probably still in the middle stages of this pandemic, which means people need to be in quarantine for at least a few more weeks. This helps our front line health workers manage the number of patients they have to attend to. If we stay healthy and away from the virus, we can help put an end to this much sooner than if we carelessly go outside of our homes.
On the other hand, this self-isolation procedure can be difficult mentally for some. This begs the question, what are the things we can do to cope with self-isolation during quarantine? Well, you can try the following tips from mental health experts.
How to Keep Your Mental Health Stable During Quarantine
1. Improve your state of mind.
Quarantine may be difficult especially for those who are alone. If you are self-isolated, maybe you can try to improve your state of mind. Think about why you are doing this. Think about why you have to be alone. Realize that you are isolating yourself so you can keep your friends and family safe. Not only that, you are helping keep the public safe.
2. Be busy with household chores.
There’s much to do at home that can take your mind off from the difficult situation outside. You can cook, clean, wash dishes and more. Not only do you maintain the cleanliness of your house, you get to exercise as well, which gives an extra boost in your immune system.
3. Be creative.
You have more time to sit down, write, paint, play musical instruments, make a short video, or do anything that involves creativity. Being creative is also a form of self-care.
4. Relax and have fun.
During the weekends, you can spend time watching movies through Netflix. You can also exercise with the aid of free fitness apps like FitOn. With the proper masks and other safety gear, you can go out for walks outside your house as well. We can’t always stay inside the house; a little sunshine and some fresh air really makes anyone’s mood better.
5. Keep in touch with friends, colleagues and family.
Today’s technology really makes it easy to contact your friends, family and colleagues wherever they are in the world. You can just make regular calls or use the internet and apps like WhatApp and Microsoft Teams for group communication.
6. Stay productive.
If you have a work from home arrangement with your company, then you’re in an ideal spot in terms of being productive with work. It might be challenging to focus on work when your family is around, but dedicating time and space each day for office work can be arranged.
7. On buying groceries

We still need to go outside to buy groceries and other essential goods. When you do so, ensure that you are practicing the correct safety measures, like wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. Wearing rubber gloves is also helpful. You can buy large quantities of items that have a long shelf-life. Just make sure to disinfect everything before using them.
Self-isolation is not easy, but it is the best way to flatten the curve. After all, it is much easier than being in the front line and taking care of those infected by the disease. Through everyone’s cooperation, we will soon see an end to this global pandemic.
