Buying groceries need not be expensive. There are several supermarkets in Qatar that are known to carry affordable products that do not cost much.
Some of these supermarkets regularly have promos and discounts. They even have various branches in the country. But keep in mind that one particular product will differ in prices across different supermarkets.
Budget-Friendly Supermarkets in Qatar
A portion of our salary is allotted for groceries. So as not to stretch our budget, let us look for stores that offer low prices but with quality products. Try these supermarkets to see what they offer:
- Carrefour – a French hypermarket, Carrefour always offers discounts and other promos. To better plan a trip to Carrefour, you can look up their leaflet online to see what they have on sale at a particular time. The Carrefour Hypermarket carries everything from food, toiletries, cleaning materials, clothes, and electronics, among others. There are branches in City Center, Villaggio, Landmark, Mall of Qatar and Al Wakrah. Meanwhile, the Carrefour Market has in-store baked breads, butcheries and fishes. There are branches in Ezdan Mall, Lagoona, Dar Alsalam, and Al Mirqab. Shopping hours for the hypermarket and market are: 8 AM to 12 AM on Saturday to Thursday. While for Fridays, 8 AM to 11 AM and 12:30 PM to 12 AM.
- LuLu Supermarket – another hypermarket where you can find everything you need under one roof. The grocery items are usually located in a separate floor than the department store. LuLu also regularly offers promotions, and it also helps to check these online. The grocery section has aisles of affordable food products, including fruits, vegetables and baked products. There is always a long line at the produce section, though. Meanwhile, the department store is where you can find toys, clothes, shoes, and other items at prices that won’t hurt the pocket. There are also the LuLu house brands for frozen food, grocery food and non-food, health & beauty and the Ikon products. There are branches in Al Messila, D Ring Road, Gharaffa, Al Khor Mall, and Barwa City. There is also a LuLu Express in Qatar Foundation and LuLu Center in Al Rayan. Regular shop time varies in each branch so it’s best to check beforehand.
- Family Food Centre – a smaller supermarket but offers a variety of products for the customers. It has grocery items, produce section, and household items. There are branches in Frij Al Nasr, Airport Road, Rayyan Road and Al Kheesa. The store opens as early as 7:30 AM from Saturday to Friday, except in Al Kheesa Branch.
- Also worth mentioning is the Kabayan Supermarket near Souq Waqif. Though smaller in floor area, it is packed with grocery items including Filipino products. It also has a fish, fruits and vegetables section. It is open from 8 AM to 11:30 PM.
