Visiting Qatar for a Day: Places to Visit

There will be places to go and see even if you only have one day to stay in Qatar. There is Souq Waqif, Museum of Islamic Arts, Corniche and the business district. You can join a complimentary tour from the hotel you are staying, or avail of the many tours from accredited tour operators. You can even hire a car and driver to get a more personalized travel.

Qatar Airways also offer tour options for their passengers on a layover. These include a tour to The Pearl Qatar and Katara Cultural Village. This is still upon the approval of immigration, and visa is needed. But some countries are exempt from getting a visa upon entering Qatar. Check our previous post.

Where to Go to Qatar in One Day

If you are on a layover in Qatar, especially for more than 12 hours, you will probably be given a hotel where you can rest. But why pass the time in a hotel when you can visit some nearby interesting places in Qatar? You can avail of a tour from your hotel, or you can ask where to hire a car with driver.

Here are the places to go:

  • Souq Waqif – learn more about the old Qatar by visiting this place. Traditional clothes, jewellery, and other spices can also be bought here. Remember to ask for discount when buying.
  • Museum of Islamic Art – learn more about history by looking at the Islamic art on display. At times, there will be other rare pieces on display. You can also appreciate the architecture of the building. Beside the museum is the MIA Park, which is featured in a previous post. Across the museum is the harbour, where you can see dhows
  • Corniche – is the long expanse overlooking the bay. You can sit along the boulevard or try the exercise machines.  Should the weather permits, you can walk from souq to other side going to the business district. See the modern architecture in the business district and visit the mall.
  •  Should you prefer to join the Qatar Airways tour, there are four tours available. Assembly times are 7 AM, 10 AM, 3 PM and 6:45 PM. The itineraries also include The Pearl Qatar and Katara Cultural Village.
