Leaving Your Job in Qatar? Request Your Free Employment Service Certificate

Before leaving a job in Qatar, ask for a service certificate. It provides a record of your employment that may be useful when applying for another role.

This guide covers workers under Qatar’s Labour Law. Workers under separate employment rules should confirm the requirements that apply to them.

What Must the Employer Provide?

Under Article 53 of Qatar’s Labour Law, an employer must provide a service certificate, free of charge, when a worker requests one at the end of employment.

It should show:

  • The date employment began.
  • The date employment ended.
  • The type of work performed.
  • The remuneration received.

Article 53 also requires the employer to return certificates and documents deposited by the worker.

How Should You Request It?

Send HR or your employer a written request before your final working day. Ask for the certificate and the return of any original documents they hold.

When you receive it, compare the details with your contract and employment records. Request corrections in writing if you find an error.

Keep a digital copy alongside your contract, payslips and final-settlement records.

What If You Cannot Get the Certificate?

Keep your request and any employer response. Ask Qatar’s Ministry of Labour which assistance route applies.

Filipino workers may also contact the Migrant Workers Office for employment-related assistance. Our guide to MWO Qatar explains its role.

What Workers Should Do Now

Request your service certificate before completing your departure arrangements. Check the information, collect your original documents and save copies somewhere you can access after leaving the company.
