Are You Healthy Enough to Work Abroad?

Before you can work abroad, you need to pass the medical exam first. However, you might have second thoughts if you are suffering from any form of ailment or mild medical condition. Especially if you are planning to work as a household worker, you will worry if you are fit enough to take on the responsibilities.

In this YouTube video of Pinay DH in Qatar, you can get some answers to your health-related questions. These concerns are also shared by other kababayans who want to know if they can proceed with their application despite their conditions. Let’s look at these questions:

Do I need to extract a decayed tooth?

The vlogger reminds the applicants that the condition of the teeth is also part of the medical examination that OFWs must go through. There are some cases where the tooth might need extraction. If the tooth continues to hurt while you are in the Philippines, you may need to have it extracted. After all, it can get very cold in Qatar. And the cold temperature can also add to the discomfort that you might feel in your tooth.

Also, you might not have the opportunity to get a tooth extraction once you are in Qatar. There could be some employers who would not want to shoulder such expenses.

The vlogger also shared that it is more comfortable to get a tooth extraction in the Philippines. It seems that a Filipino dentist is gentler in dealing with patients. You will also have more time to recuperate in your home country. If you are working in your employer’s home, you won’t be able to rest as much.

On the other hand, if there is a way to repair the tooth, you can opt for a filling. This way, you don’t have to lose your original tooth.

Can I still work even if I can’t hear clearly in one of my ears?

According to our vlogger, you can still work in this condition. However, there is a possibility that you will not qualify for the job if you can’t hear at all. After all, how can you respond to your employer if you can’t hear them in the first place?

Can I get a job even if I wear eyeglasses?

It will not be an issue with your employer whether you are nearsighted or farsighted. You should not worry about wearing eyeglasses; the important thing is that you can do your job.

The vlogger also shared that she noticed that her eyesight worsened as she worked abroad. She believes that exposure to too much heat abroad is to blame.

Will my lung problem affect my chances of working?

According to the vlogger, Qatar is quite strict regarding lung problems. If you have this condition, you could rest for a while. And when your lung clears, you can try applying as a household worker again.

If I have an operation, can I still work abroad?

According to the vlogger, it will depend on the recruitment agency. There were some applicants who underwent an operation several years ago, and she was able to get a job. However, if you had a cesarean operation, you will need to wait for about 5 years before you can apply for work. It would be dangerous for you to apply earlier because you might be required to move objects a lot.

I have hemorrhoids; can I still apply?

Since hemorrhoids are curable, this should not be a problem. It also goes away after a few days. However, you should get medical attention if your hemorrhoids worsen. Also, the doctor can give you medication to help you manage your condition.
