How To Book a QDC Appointment Online

If you hold a valid resident permit in Qatar, you can purchase liquor and pork products at the Qatar Distribution Company (QDC).

In accordance with Islamic law, the sale of these products is highly regulated in Qatar. To purchase them for personal consumption, individuals must obtain a license from QDC and follow a monthly quota.  The license expires after a certain period, so there is a need to renew it.

Setting Up an Appointment Online

Non-Muslim expatriates can transact with QDC, but they need to set up an appointment. In the past, appointments were made through text messaging before being allowed to shop. Expats who need to apply for permits can schedule an appointment with the QDC Permit Office by sending an email.

All appointments are now done through the website. Let’s discuss the procedures:

  • Go to ww.qdc.com.qa
  • Choose your transaction: Store Visit, Permit Renewal, or New Permit
  • Provide the following information:
    • Permit Number
    • Qatar ID Number
    • Email Address
    • Mobile Number
    • Captcha
  • Next, check your inbox for the OTP from QDC. You will copy this OTP to proceed with your appointment 
  • Choose a suitable date and time from the available options to visit QDC
  • Indicate your agreement to the terms and conditions of QDC
  • Finally, wait for the confirmation of your appointment, which will appear in a pop-up message

Applying for QDC License

Now that you know how to set up an appointment, it is important to understand how to apply in the first place. If you are transacting with QDC for the first time, it is essential to take note of the following details to ensure a smooth application process.

You can apply for a QDC license if you are:

  • A non-GCC national with a valid Qatar Resident permit
  • 21 years old and above
  • Has a monthly income of at least QR 3,000 (excluding benefits)

If you meet the following criteria, you need to prepare these documents in order to apply for the QDC license:

  • Employer’s letter indicating the applicant’s name, position, monthly salary, accommodation, and other benefits
  • The letter must be written in English, addressed to QDC or written as “To Whom It May Concern,” and signed by the employer.
  • A valid QID for at least two months
  • Bank statement, employment contract, and CR copy of the applicant

QDC Annual Fees

Once you meet the eligibility criteria and successfully obtain the permit, you will be required to pay an annual fee each time you renew it. The fee schedule is as follows:

  • Year One           QR 150
  • Year Two           QR 250
  • Year Three        QR 350
  • Year Four          QR 400

Validity of QDC License

You can find the validity period of your QDC license on the card, which is in the MM/YY format. Your license is valid until the last day of the month indicated on your card. Even if your license has expired, you can still use it for one transaction while you are in the process of renewing it.

However, if you changed your job, employer, housing, or any similar situation, you will need to update your license. You should prepare the documents mentioned earlier along with the application form when you report to the QDC office.

For in-person transactions with QDC, you can go to Plot No. 15, Street No. 688, Zone 65, Abu Hamour, Doha. If you need a more recognizable landmark, look for the Wholesale Market Road. The Abu Hamour branch is both the licensing office and retail store.

Alternatively, QDC has a new store in West Bay. To get there, use the Sheraton Road Hotel car park entrance, proceed to Basement 1 and find the customer car park. Note that this branch is only for vehicle owners; pedestrian shoppers are not allowed. Always bring your QDC license when purchasing at QDC.

Frequently Asked Questions About QDC

Is there a quota for buying pork and liquor from QDC?

Once your application process is complete, you will be informed of your fixed monthly liquor purchase quota, while there is no purchase quota for pork.

Can I lend my license to another person?

No, the QDC license is strictly for personal use and cannot be shared with anyone else.  However, it is possible to request an additional card for the spouse of the license holder. The couple will submit the requirements at the QDC office in person. 

How do I transport the items I purchased from QDC?

After purchasing your items, make sure to properly conceal them before leaving the QDC premises. You are only allowed to consume the liquor you purchased in the privacy of your home, so be sure to transport it in a secure and discreet manner.

Can I give the liquor I purchased as a gift?

No, it is strictly prohibited to gift the purchased items to another person, even if the recipient possesses a valid permit for such items.

What happens when I lose my license?

As soon as you lose your license, you need to report it to QDC immediately. Send an email to permit@qdc.com.qa to report the loss. In case you find the old card again, you can no longer use it because the code is no longer valid. 

Can I cancel my QDC license?

Yes, you can cancel the license anytime. One option is to surrender your license to the QDC office. Alternatively, you can send an email to permit@qdc.com.qa to inform that you are canceling your license. This second option is appropriate if you have no time to go to the office in person, or when you have already left the country.
