Although the requirement was introduced in December 2023, it remains an important consideration for foreign workers hoping to reunite with their families in Qatar.
QR5,000 Salary Alone Is Not Enough
According to the Ministry of Interior, residents must meet several conditions before sponsoring relatives for a family visit.
These include:
- A monthly salary of at least QR5,000, supported by an accredited employment contract.
- A registered profession that does not fall under the labour category.
- Family accommodation verified by the relevant authorities.
- Valid health insurance covering the visitor’s entire stay in Qatar.
This means that earning QR5,000 does not automatically qualify an OFW to bring family members into the country.
The sponsor’s registered job category and accommodation arrangements must also meet government requirements.
Which Family Members Can Visit Qatar?
Eligible relatives include spouses, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, and certain other family members.
The Ministry of Interior states that family visit visas are initially granted for one month.
For first-degree relatives, the visa may be extended for another five months, subject to approval.
The visa issuance fee is QR200, while each monthly extension costs another QR200.
Visitors must maintain valid health insurance throughout their stay.
How OFWs Can Apply for a Family Visit Visa
Filipino residents can submit their applications electronically through Qatar’s Metrash service.
Applicants should prepare a copy of the visitor’s passport, documents proving their family relationship, and verified proof of family accommodation.
The visitor’s passport must have at least six months of validity.
The sponsor must also have an accredited employment contract confirming their salary.
Additional documents may be requested during processing.
Different Salary Rules Apply to Family Residence Visas
OFWs planning to bring their spouse and children to live in Qatar should note that family residence visas have different requirements.
Private-sector employees generally need a monthly salary of QR10,000, or QR6,000 with employer-provided family accommodation documented in their employment contract.
Government and semi-government employees have separate salary and housing conditions.
