Benefits of Running

Pinoy Runner In Qatar

Working abroad entails being away from our loved ones and being homesick. But there are productive ways to overcome homesickness. One example is our kababayan, Romil Abule, who began working in Qatar 10 years ago. He took up running to beat homesickness, and he has been running ever since.

On October 20, 2022, Romil Abule achieved the Guinness World Record for “Fastest Crossing of Qatar on foot (male),” as reported on the Guinness World Records website. Abule shared on the same website that running helped him overcome his homesickness while working abroad, and achieving this world record was a personal challenge for him and a source of inspiration for others.

According to Gulf Times, Abule commenced his run from Al Ruwais at 5:30 PM on October 20, 2022. He followed Qatar’s primary highways for his route but had to take frequent stops to obtain the necessary documentation from witnesses. Since no Guinness representative was present, he had to gather approximately 30 witnesses from various nationalities and include them in the two-minute documentation.

After running for a day, Abule had to rest for half an hour to recharge. He would also take occasional rest or slow down for a bit when he felt tired.

The Benefits of Running

Aside from getting awards or recognition, running has health benefits as well. Medical experts say that running is good for your heart. At a minimum of 10 minutes running each day, you can lessen your risk of acquiring cardiovascular disease.

You will also notice that you will sleep better. Getting enough sleep is important because it allows your body to rest.

Experts suggest that running can help with memory retention. This physical activity increases your heart rate and makes you sweat, which can stimulate the brain and improve memory and learning.

The best part is that you don’t need to spend much to start running. All you need is a pair of comfortable running shoes and suitable clothing, and you’re good to go.
