Work Opportunities for Filipinos

With the number of commercial establishments in Qatar, you can find employment as staff in a retail store.  In this vlog from the Melit Vlog Youtube channel, we will learn about the potential for earning as a staff in a retail store, salon, as well as optometrist. We will also get an idea about the potential expenses of an OFW.

Some OFWs go through an agency so they won’t encounter any problems. It is not that difficult to get a job in Qatar when you apply through the agency. If you try to find work on a tourist visa, you will have to double your efforts because you will look for a job on your own.

A typical salon worker would earn QAR 1,300 a month. When the staff members stay longer in the company, there is a possibility of incentive. They can also expect a salary expense every 6 months. Meanwhile, an employee in an optical shop can expect to earn an equivalent of PHP 30,000 a month, aside from the incentives.

Those who work in luxury shops can earn about QAR 4,000 per month. As our vlogger emphasizes, the amount mentioned is the average expected salary. The actual amount will still depend on the company that you will work for.

An optometrist will earn an equivalent of PHP 100,000 a month. Optical shops in Qatar employ optometrists to prepare prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Optometrists who want to work in Qatar may try to find employment as direct-hired.

When you live in Qatar, you will inevitably need to spend on your necessities. You will need to allot a budget for the apartment. The price range for a decent apartment would be QAR 650 to 1,000 a month. This amount can go lower if you choose an apartment with fewer amenities or with more occupants. On the other hand, you will have to pay higher for a fancy apartment.

You will also need to allot a budget for transportation. For those who don’t have a car, the easiest way to get around the city is to ride a taxi. Expect to shell out around QAR 200 a month for taxi fare. But some OFWs ride a van, or a coaster, to save on expenses. The fare is cheaper, but you will have to take plenty of stops because you will be sharing a ride with more passengers.

Of course, some companies provide housing and transportation allowance for their employees. Once you get a job offer, you could ask about the benefits so you will know what to expect.

Having discussed the average salaries and expenses of OFWs, our vlogger also shared information on how to adapt to working in a foreign country. Indeed, it can get sad at first. But if you persevere, you will get used to your new life. Your contract will not seem long because you will find activities to entertain yourself with.
